I Have Everything

Smile at me forever,
And I will have everything.
Say, what would I miss?
Yes, I can wait,
I’m sure you will find nothing.

You said, “Caffeine, to stay awake?”
"A big, freshly baked birthday cake?”
Why no, indeed, I’ll take no stake!
Now let me explain why:
To me you are the sweetest sweet,
With you in my arms I couldn’t sleep,
So I think I’d be fine to keep
Your smile as my one thing.

“Those things are no big deal,” you say,
and I agree with you, no doubt!
But the point is you are all I need
To sing and dance about.
I can take it up a notch
To prove this is no joke,
There must be at least a billion things,
And my logic never chokes.

Imagining a private jet?
A million bucks from sporting bets?
No, those are things I’d soon forget
If you simply crossed my mind,
For all the riches that exist
I know that I could never miss,
When something greater brings me bliss:
Your smile is my one thing!

You think I need thoughts to conceive?
Or that I’d struggle without air to breathe?
For me there is no need for these!
And I can tell you why:
See, YOU put breath into my lungs,
Your eyes meet mine my brain goes dumb,
So thank you, but I’m sure I’d love
For your smile to be my one thing.

Are you understanding clearly?
I’m sure you must by now know how
Your presence far outshines my need
For sun or rain or clouds.
But still not satisfied, I guess?
Indeed you look confused.
I can’t imagine why,
I know my words have all been true!

“Well, you know, I think I’ll be
Misunderstood until I die,
And really that’s fine anyway,”
I exhale with a big sigh.
And then my heart skipped two beats!
You smiled right at me.
That is it. That is all.
I do have everything.
