Halloween

Red and yellow
and chilly and mellow,
katydids chirp daintily
all through the meadow;
The squirrel and the sparrow,
they bark like old fellows,
to the crackle and pop
of the roasting marshmallows.

Crunching and munching
decidedly hunching,
over words carved into the tree;
The leaves take to dancing,
dead lovers romancing,
poor Poe and his Annabel Lee.

Now capes and crusaders,
grown men with lightsabers,
kids making friends
and old friends meeting neighbors;
The parties and favors,
all kinds of new flavors,
for behind every door
there are new treats to savor.

Ghosts and ghouls
and thimbles and spools,
turn the world to a new wonderland;
The sparkle and spright,
as the day becomes night,
and the city breathes life once again.
